Team IntaRacing this week parted company with sponsor Sherrin Rentals, which was slated to buy the team.
In a statement, Team IntaRacing driver Marcus Marshall said the partnership, which lasted two events, had ended yesterday (Monday).
Sherrin initially was to sponsor the #77 Falcon for the Falken Tasmania Challenge in a one-off deal but that sponsorship was extended to the Skycity Triple Crown with a view to the company buying the team from embattled owners Daniel Tzvetkoff and Salvatore ‘Sam’ Sciacca.
The V8 Supercars Australia (V8SA) Board was to approve the change in ownership at its meeting on June 10 but the official word from V8SA soon after that date was “the finalisation of the transfer of ownership is pending”.
In the statement, Marshall thanked Sherrin Rentals for its support over the last two events.
“However the relationship between the two organisations will cease as of today,” he said.
“While both parties have put a tremendous amount of effort into formalising the sale of the team, a number of factors prohibited the arrangement moving forward.
“Once again, I would like to extend my thanks to Sherrin Rentals for their support at a time when as a team we needed it the most and I wish them further success both on and off the race track.”
It is the latest upheaval for Marshall’s team, which made its debut at the Clipsal 500 in March this year.
Tzvetkoff, who is a personal friend of Marshall’s and Sciacca are the directors of internet financial transaction company IntaBill.
IntaBill owned the company Access Cash, which was supposed to sponsor Team IntaRacing for the whole of 2009, but the company was closed before its launch date and the sponsorship was withdrawn.
Queensland Supreme Court documents show that Tzvetkoff, Sciacca, IntaBill and another of their ventures – BT Projects – are listed as defendants in a case where money is allegedly owed.
The company Kolyma Corporation, which runs the Full Tilt Poker website, is taking them to court for a reported $52 million. News of the court case made headlines in the online gambling community.
At this stage, Team IntaRacing will revert back to its red livery with the large #77 across the side for the Dunlop Townsville 400.
“Despite the breakdown in negotiations, it is business as usual for Team IntaRacing with the team currently preparing the #77 Falcon for the Townsville street race on July 10-12,” Marshall said.
